ABOUT CSM BATON
The CSM baton organization was founded in 1970 by Paul Edward Tulga. He was not only a band director, but also an extremely talented drum major! Paul created the private school band and baton program to bring music and baton twirling to our students, thus uniting the Catholic Schools as one large organization. Your current director of twirling activities, DeAnn Parrett- Stangeland, signed up for the program at the age of 7 and could not get enough of the sport. DeAnn first twirled for the Royal Blue Regiment at Oakmont High School. Later in her twirling career, she competed with the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps Twirl Team from 1997 to 1998. Through commitment, time, and dedication, she grew the baton program. Today we have one of the largest twirling parade corps in the United States, and we are very proud of our CSM twirlers!
Twirlers at participating schools throughout the greater Sacramento area have the opportunity to perform at spirit rallis, variety shows, stage shows, festivals and local parades. After two years of experience with CSM, students are invited to represent the Catholic Schools at Disneyland!
Our twirling program encourages self-confidence, teamwork, coordination and new friendships! All levels are welcome.
